High school basketball state playoffs begin this week. In 6A, Mesa High (15), Mt. View (12) and Desert Ridge (10) all play Tuesday night in the first round. See attached schedule for time and place.

Know where the romantic places are in Mesa?

Whether you’re a romantic, sporty, artistic or adventurous couple, the East Valley has Valentine’s Day options for you Tuesday is Valentine’s Day. Yup, it snuck up on you again. But don’t fret for ideas. You don’t have to settle for candy and flowers.

Take a cruise around Saguaro Lake

For a mid-afternoon Valentine’s Day treat, check out the Desert Belle cruise that takes passengers around Mesa’s Saguaro Lake in a 90-minute narrated tour. You’ll see all the flora and fauna of the Southwest and gorgeous canyon walls that’ll be sure to impress your date. While onboard, passengers can purchase refreshments, including beer and wine. Valentine’s Day cruises are set for 12:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. and adult tickets are $22 a piece.

Red Mountain District Park

For a low-key date, head to Red Mountain District Park in Mesa. The park, which is more than 1,100 acres, features plenty of grassy areas for an old-school picnic date, a walking trail for a romantic stroll, and plenty of prime spots for watching the sunset over the park’s scenic lake and nearby mountains.

Catch a comedy show

If you’re in the mood for a laugh, check out one of several improv comedy clubs in the East Valley offering special Valentines-themed shows. National Comedy Theatre in Mesa will have all-ages interactive Valentine’s Day show that starts at 7:30 p.m. and goes until 9 p.m. Tickets are $8. Also in Mesa, JesterZ Improv will have a Valentine’s Day show that starts at 7 p.m. and goes until 8:30. Tickets are $15 and it’s general seating, so show up a few minutes early to get a good seat! JesterZ is located at the Mesa Riverview.
