This is happening now – the rest of Mesa Jr. High School at Broadway Road and Horne is coming down and the auditorium is a pile of rubble! The school was built in the 1950s and was one of the first junior highs to be built in Arizona. The school closed after the school year ended in 2012. The main part of the school was torn down previously but the auditorium and gym remained until this week.
The city of Mesa owns the property and plans to construct a park called Eagles Park, named after the junior high’s mascot (see photo attached below). Construction will begin this year and is estimated to be completed in about a year.Funding comes from a parks bond program that voters approved in 2012.
